This weekend as part of its “Life Looks Good on You” water safety campaign, the Sacramento County
Department of Regional Parks is having a large mural painted on the restroom near the raft launching parking lot at the Sunrise Recreation area. This new mural will act as a reminder to parkway visitors to wear life jackets and take safety precautions while enjoying the area’s local waterways.
“This mural installation is expected to be completed Saturday, July 31, by noon,” said Liz Bellas, Director of Regional Parks. “We are excited about the chosen design because of the way it complements the surrounding park area and features happy rafters and kayakers wearing life jackets as they float down the American River.”
The Life Looks Good on You campaign was born after the summer of 2015, which saw 16 confirmed drownings in Sacramento area rivers. Since its inception, drowning rates have dropped considerably. This campaign aims to combat the “I’m a strong swimmer” mentality while addressing risky behavior and focusing on the positive aspects of water safety
The next time you head out to the river, remember: Life Looks Good on You! Stay safe and have fun with your life jacket on.
