The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) will receive grant funds to begin the first phase of expanding the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail to the Placer County Line.
The bike trail currently ends in the Elverta Park and Ride lot, leaving it just a mile and a half short of reaching the Placer County border. SacDOT will receive $564,864 to begin a feasibility study and conduct outreach to residents living near the proposed bike trail area.
The Sacramento Northern Trail runs from the American River Parkway near Northgate Boulevard in the City of Sacramento, through unincorporated Sacramento County into the Elverta Park and Ride Lot just south of the Elverta Road and Rio Linda Boulevard intersection.
The final section is a dirt trail from the Placer County line to the Park and Ride lot. The construction of the final section will consist of a 1.5-mile extension of the Class 1 trail that will include a 12-foot-wide road of paved asphalt with centerline striping for the riders.
The total cost for the project is $640,000. SACOG’S
Carbon Reduction Program will fund $564,864, and Sacramento County will provide a local match of $73,408 from Measure A funds. The County expects to start its feasibility study in September.
