The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, at its May 10 meeting, concurred with the County Executive’s appointment of David Defanti as the Deputy County Executive for Community Services. Defanti begins his new position on June 5, 2022.
“After a nationwide search, we are fortunate to have identified the best candidate within our own ranks,” said Ann Edwards, County Executive. “With nearly 20 years of local public sector community services experience, Mr. Defanti has exceptional expertise in his field and has established crucial collaborative relationships with community and industry stakeholders.”
Defanti recently returned to County service in February of this year as Director of Community Development. Prior to that appointment, he served as a Deputy County Executive Officer for Placer County, overseeing multiple departments, including Community Development, Public Works, Facilities, Parks, Agriculture, and Clerk/Recorder/Elections.
His leadership experience also includes serving as the Community Development Agency Assistant Director for El Dorado County. He previously worked in Sacramento County as a Planner and a Senior Planner. Defanti also has served on local boards, including the Arden Park Recreation and Park District.
He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations with an Environmental emphasis from UC Davis.
Departments within
Sacramento County’s Community Services Agency provide services including agriculture, animal care, code enforcement, construction management and inspection, building permits and development services, economic development, garbage/recycling collection, road maintenance, clean water, and storm protection. The agency also oversees the Sacramento County Department of Airports.
