The next time you attend a meeting in the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers, be sure to check out the rotating art on display! Sacramento County sponsors bi-annual art exhibitions in the Board Chambers, located at 700 “H” St. “The Colors of Time: Paintings by Laura Hohlwein” is on display now through Dec. 19, 2021.
Laura Hohlwein is a painter, poet and photographer. She studied English at California State University, Sacramento, and holds an MFA in new media from Transart Institute in Austria, as well as an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College.
“I love painting in part because I love the idea of the field of inevitable context,” said Hohlwein. “Everything – in life, in space, in time, no matter what, no matter at what scale, exists in the context of something larger – a field.
“The title of the show related loosely to my – often challenging – experience navigating this year and a half of the pandemic. During lockdown, so many of us had long hours to notice more attentively our daily rhythms and the different qualities of different times of day.”
Hohlwein has taught writing and art-related subjects at several colleges around the county and is currently an adjunct professor with the Los Rios Community College District and an instructor at Mule Creek State Prison.
Visitors are welcome to view the art when meetings are in session. Please remember that masks are required while inside the Board Chambers. To check when the next meeting is scheduled,
