The Planning and Environmental Review Division of the Department of Community Development has released the final draft of the
Sacramento County Climate Action Plan (CAP). The draft released today revises and replaces the draft released in February 2022.
The CAP is Sacramento County’s plan to reduce its contribution to climate change while addressing the impacts of climate change on the area.
Public comments will be accepted through Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, when the CAP is expected to be before the Board of Supervisors for approval. Comments can be sent by email to
ClimateActionPlan@saccounty.gov.
“The County has been hard at work over the last six years to develop a CAP that will enable the County to take meaningful actions,” said Todd Smith, Sacramento County Planning Director. “While it does not get us all the way there, the CAP we have developed is an important first step to put the County on the path to carbon neutrality by 2030.”
“The adoption of the CAP will lay the groundwork for future success as the County begins to implement the measures contained within,” said John Lundgren, Sacramento County Sustainability Manager. “However, this is not the end, and we will continue to work on achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.”
Changes to the CAP were made based on feedback received during the Board of Supervisors workshop.
Notable updates to this draft of the CAP include:
- Added funding options for Carbon Farming and reduced target acreage;
- Revised and clarified the strategies for electrification of new and existing buildings;
- Provided flexibility to deal with supply chain disruptions;
- Highlighted the County’s infill policies and projects;
- Removed the requirement for carbon neutral new growth; and
- Added language to better coordinate with Regional Transit.
