Holiday cheer is humming through the hallways at Sacramento County Bradshaw Animal Shelter. The shelter’s volunteer elves have been hard at work making “howliday” stockings. Every pet adopted during the month of December will be sent home with their very own stocking stuffed with donated toys and treats. A few pups even provided quality assurance services to ensure that the gifts were being prepared to the highest standards.
To encourage more “happily ever afters” this month, adoption fees for all dogs and cats will be sponsored this weekend only, Friday, Dec. 9 through Sunday, Dec. 11, by
Best Friends. The Bradshaw Animal Shelter currently has approximately 123 adoptable
dogs and 62 adoptable
cats still hoping to find homes for the holidays, and more pets in need arrive at the shelter’s doorstep daily.
Research has shown that successful adoptions do not require payment of a fee, and free adoption promotions may increase adoptions without compromising the quality of the animal's life. In an effort to save as many lives as possible, the animal shelter will continue to waive
adoption fees for long-term residents: pets who have been at the shelter for more than 30 days.
“Our greatest wish is for every animal at our shelter to find a loving forever home in time for the holidays,” said Annette Bedsworth, Director of Bradshaw Animal Shelter.
For animal lovers who want to help this holiday season but cannot adopt a new pet at this time,
foster care providers are always needed to give pets a vacation from their kennels. All necessary supplies and veterinary care are provided for fosters. For any pets who don’t find a home this season, a donation from the
shelter’s wishlist can still provide them with some fun while they wait to find their new homes.
