The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors yesterday, acting as the Housing Authority of the County of Sacramento, approved the recommendation from the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) to issue 68 additional Project-Based Housing Vouchers (PBV) for homeless individuals and families to live in affordable housing units.
The amount exceeds the previously authorized amount of 300 PBV over the next three years.
In addition to the 368 PBV, 75 Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Vouchers (VASH) had been authorized to house homeless veterans, for a total of 443 housing vouchers for homeless individuals and families over the next three years.
Included in the SHRA recommendation were administrative changes in the prioritization of those receiving vouchers, resulting in placement of homeless individuals at the top of housing voucher waiting lists.
“These additional Project Based and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Vouchers, along with Housing Choice Vouchers already prioritized to assist homeless individuals and families, are a vital component in efforts to address issues related to homelessness and help folks in our community find stable housing and get back on their feet,” said Sacramento County Board Chairman Don Nottoli, Supervisor for District 5.
The vouchers will be awarded to 11 housing units within the County. Six of those units are existing, while the remaining five are under construction, with move-in dates ranging from 2018 to 2020.

It is anticipated that the existing units will be available to homeless individuals and families within six months.
"The approval from the Board of Supervisors in supporting the Agency's recommendation to increase the award of project based vouchers was essential to the success of our joint efforts to provide and preserve housing for homeless veterans and families," said SHRA Executive Director La Shelle Dozier. "These rental assistance vouchers provide a long term solution that enables owners and developers to partner with the County and SHRA in addressing the affordable housing crisis in Sacramento."
