Sacramento County residents wishing to vote in the Nov. 8 presidential elections must be registered by October 24.
“Residents must be registered to vote 15 days prior to an election, so we urge anyone who hasn’t done so to take action,” said Jill LaVine, Sacramento County Registrar of Voters.
Residents must meet the following criteria to register:
- United States citizen
- Resident of California
- At least 18 years of age (or will be by the date of the next election)
- Are not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony
- Have not been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and vote
And it’s not just first-time voters who need to register to vote; residents must re-register when they:
- Move
- Change name
- Change political party affiliation
Registering or re-registering can be done online or by completing a Voter registration card.
