To help injured animals get diagnosed and treated as soon as possible and adopted into to good homes, the County Department of Animal Care and Regulation has enhanced their veterinary services with specialized medical equipment to more effectively treat the pets who find their way to the Sacramento County Animal Shelter.
With the addition of new state-of-the-art equipment, the County Animal Shelter has one of the most sophisticated animal health centers in the area. A new digital X-ray machine will enable County Veterinarians to quickly assess an animal and make a diagnosis. Now, animals will not need to be transported to other facilities for costly X-ray services. Eliminating transport and the use of non-County facility services reduces department cost and greatly decreases the stress on the animals, as well as saving valuable time and resources. With instant results, staff can begin treatment immediately, which is often critical when dealing with internal injuries, trauma or fractured bones.
New orthopedic power equipment and miniature-fracture repair kit allows fracture repairs and orthopedic surgeries on cats and small dogs. Having these precision instruments allow County Veterinarians to perform lifesaving surgeries in-house while greatly reducing external costs of care.
The final new piece of equipment at the shelter is the Engler ADS 2000 Anesthesia Delivery System, delivering proper doses of anesthesia and regulates breathing during complex surgeries.
“The equipment is vitally important for us and the animals,” said Dr. Aleksander Berdovskiy, Veterinarian for Animal Care and Regulation. “It helps us make efficient diagnoses to best treat the animals that come into our care.”
Addressing medical issues faster and in-house reduces the animal’s stress and amount of time they must stay at the shelter, which increases the animal’s chances to find a good home.
