The Board of Supervisors approved the Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2015-16 today, authorizing spending for services the County provides until the Adopted Budget is heard and finalized in September.
“We’re especially pleased that in addition to fully funding current programs and services, for the first time in years, we’re making strategic investments in critical priority areas,” said County Executive Bradley J. Hudson.
New investments in the budget include:
• Public Safety (Sheriff, DA, Probation)
• Regional Parks
• Health and Human Services, including mental health, African-American child death reduction, and health
services for undocumented residents
• The total investment in homeless assistance programs is $32.5M
The $3.7 billion plan reflects the third straight year of increased discretionary income due to higher property taxes, sales taxes and increases in Realignment Revenue. However, those increases were somewhat offset by cost increases, loss of some revenues, and increased salary costs.
“We made additional investments that will improve the quality of life for some of our most vulnerable constituents and that will help address important social challenges such as the disproportionate mortality rate of African-American children, homelessness and health care for those regardless of immigration status,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Phil Serna. My thanks to everyone who provided thoughtful input, and who helped shape this 2015/16 budget.”
Total Budget - $3.7 B
Total General Fund - $2.3 B
