It’s no doubt that animals make wonderful companions for people of all ages, bringing friendship and unconditional love into their owners’ lives. For senior citizens whose children have moved out and often live alone, that companionship can be more important.
The Sacramento County Animal Shelter has lowered adoption and licensing fees for seniors. Those aged 62 and over will pay only $10 per year to license a spayed or neutered animal and only $25 for a three-year license.
“Our goal is to find more loving homes for senior pets and to help seniors find the companionship that can enrich their lives,” said Dave Dickinson, Shelter Director. “These low fees will be a win-win for the animals and for the seniors. Also, older cats can be perfect pets for seniors and we hope these low fees will encourage their adoption.”
The adoption fee for seniors is also discounted. Any animal over six years old is just $25, and there can be deeper discounts for animals over the age of eight. The all-inclusive adoption fee covers microchipping, vaccinations and spaying/neutering of the pet.
