Local law enforcement is an integral part in Sacramento County’s ongoing focus to improve neighborhoods in the unincorporated County. On January 29, a joint, multi-pronged law enforcement sting was conducted along Watt Avenue to rid the area of prostitution. Participants included:
Sacramento County Sheriff’s North and Central Problem Oriented Policing teams
Sheriff North Patrol
Sheriff Work Release
Rancho Cordova Problem Orientation Policing Team
Sacramento County Probation
Deputies arrested 11 women, 16 men, and two minors for prostitution or prostitution- related charges. There were nine additional arrests for a variety of other criminal charges and outstanding warrants.
“We want to ensure that our residents feel comfortable in their own communities and that businesses have a chance to thrive,” said Brad Hudson, Chief County Executive. “This, along with our stepped-up Code Enforcement and other improvement projects will go a long way to keep our neighborhoods comfortable and safe.”
When calls or complaints were made to the Sheriff’s Department in the past, the person making the complaint would often be gone when the Sheriff’s Department arrived. By organizing this operation over a month before it began and including various agencies, the Sheriff’s Department was able to ensure that the community’s issues were addressed. This specific effort lasted more than eight hours, starting at noon and ending at 8 p.m. the same day.
“We put together an operation to specifically improve the quality of life for people who live and work in that area of the unincorporated county,” said Lisa Bowman, Sheriff’s Spokesman.
