Due to projected rains, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation will increase water releases from Folsom Lake, which will cause the American River to run higher and also faster than normal. Discovery Park, which is designed to flood during these conditions, and Howe Avenue River Access to the American River Parkway, will be closed Friday, April 6 and will remain closed until further notice.
Rangers and maintenance teams have begun to notify people in the Discovery Park area of the anticipated high flows.
Bicycle commuters and park visitors should use caution as conditions will change throughout the next few days as the storm passes through the valley and surrounding mountains.
