“Mr. Hartwig has extensive public works experience and has developed public works projects and capital improvement programs for large, medium and small public entities,” said Nav Gill, County Executive. “His expertise in public works will serve the people of Sacramento County well, and we look forward to welcoming him in his new role.”
With more than 34 years in the public works/engineering profession, Hartwig began his professional civil engineering career with the County of Sacramento in 1985 and ultimately became a Chief in the Transportation Division (currently the Department of Transportation) until 1997.
From 1997 through 2009, Hartwig served in various leadership roles in cities and special districts, as well as private engineering firms, in Washington State. In 2010, he became the Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer for the City of Fairfield, California, He went on to become the Public Works Director/City Engineer for the City of Vacaville, California in 2013. He is currently the Public Works Director for the City of American Canyon, California, and has been in that position since 2016.
Hartwig has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Sacramento. He is also a registered professional engineer and a registered professional traffic engineer in the State of California.
