The 14th annual
California Capital Airshow, presented by
Sacramento County, flies into town this weekend, Oct. 5 and 6. This year’s show is sure to be full of heart-pounding aviation thrills with the return of the United States Navy Blue Angels.
In 1946, the Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Chester Nimitz had the vision to create a flight exhibition team to raise the public’s interest in naval aviation and boost Navy morale. Throughout the years, the Blue Angels have performed for crowds across the globe in 8 different aircraft. These world-famous ambassadors of goodwill will once again rock the skies over Sacramento in their famous jets.
Seventy-five years ago, the long-awaited invasion of the European Continent in WWII, D-Day as it was known, began in the pre-dawn hours of June 6, 1944. Of the many pivotal battles of World War II, this audacious invasion of the European continent was vital to the Allied effort to defeat Nazi Germany. On this 75th Anniversary of D-Day, the Airshow will highlight and honor the bravery of the warriors that secured this vital victory for the Allies in WWII. This year’s show will feature historical information and artifacts, vehicles, equipment, uniforms, arms and some of the aircraft that played such a key role in the invasion.
In addition to the US Navy Blue Angels and D-Day Anniversary tribute the show will also feature the Patriot Parachute Team; Aftershock Jet Fire Truck; “Doc,” the B-29 Superfortress and so much more excitement in the air. On the ground, don’t miss Launch Pad, the interactive activity zone for fun, hands-on science and technology activities or Kiddie Hawke with aviation-themed bounce house fun. In the sky or on the ground this show has fun and excitement for the whole family.
