Sacramento County Bradshaw Animal Shelter recently joined the ranks of shelters in using facial recognition technology to identify lost pets. The Bradshaw Shelter now offers Sacramento residents
Finding Rover, a free app for smartphones and computers to help lost and adoptable dogs find their forever home.
Finding Rover uses facial recognition technology to identify lost and found dogs in real time. The app and website feature a lost and found dog notification system that sends a push notification and social feed photo alert to users within a 10-mile radius.
When a user spots a lost dog, he/she can take a photo either within the app, or upload a photo from a device’s photo album. When a dog has been found and identified through Finding Rover’s facial recognition software, the finder will receive information on how to notify the owner.
“Every dog that enters the Bradshaw Shelter will now be registered on Finding Rover,” said Dave Dickinson, Director of the Bradshaw Animal Shelter. “We’re pleased to integrate this technology to help Sacramento County residents find lost pets and view adoptable dogs.”
