In an effort to protect public safety, the
Regional Parks Director has issued an alcohol restriction on the American River from Hazel to Watt Avenues in preparation for a non-permitted event – Rafting Gone Wild – on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
The event being advertised for Saturday has a strong focus on alcohol consumption, which contributes greatly to public safety concerns.
As a result of the potential risks to the community including park visitors, rescue personnel and law enforcement, the Director of Regional Parks has issued an alcohol restriction for this Saturday. Violations of the alcohol restriction will be strictly enforced.
Additionally, we want to remind visitors to be extra cautious while on the shore and in the river.
Whether you’re in the river, our parks or just exercising outdoors in your neighborhood, please practice social distancing.
That means:
- Maintaining at least six-foot social distancing from individuals who are not part of the same household or living unit
- Only sharing rafts with individuals who are part of the same household or living unit.
- Frequently washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or using hand sanitizer that is recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as effective in combatting COVID-19
- Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or fabric or, if not possible, into the sleeve or elbow (but not into hands);
- Avoiding all social interactions outside the household when sick with a fever or cough.
Be Safe in the Water:
Life Looks Good On You—and so does a life vest! Before you dive in, put on a life vest. There are borrowing stations along Sacramento’s waterways and at local fire stations. Remember, even the strongest swimmer can be pulled under by the strong river currents.
Kids Don’t Float—but life vests do. Make sure your child wears a life vest. Sacramento County ordinance requires any child under 13 to wear a life vest before accessing any public waters (Sacramento County Ordinance 13.08.301). Bring a life vest for each of your children to the river.
Sacramento County recommends that people of all ages and abilities use caution when swimming or boating. Visit the Department of Regional Parks website for

healthy swimming habits.
