  • Sacramento Area Sewer District
    • Sewer Collection Services and RatesFalse

The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) provides sewage collection, treatment, and resource recovery services to more than 1.6 million customers throughout unincorporated Sacramento County; the cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, and West Sacramento; and the communities of Courtland, Locke, and Walnut Grove. The services SacSewer provides vary based on the location within our service area.

Sewage travels through about 5,000 miles of underground pipes to the EchoWater Resource Recovery Facility, located near Elk Grove. There, the sewage is highly treated, and resources are recovered from it. Once the treatment process is complete, a portion of the highly treated water is used for non-potable, water recycling purposes—like irrigating food crops, medians, and parks. The water that is not recycled is safely discharged to the Sacramento River.

Our team of well-trained and dedicated professionals work 24/7 and 365 days per year to keep the sewer system working optimally—reducing sewage backups, overflows, and loss of service for our customers.
