      All dogs and cats are in danger of contracting rabies through contact with animals including bats and skunks. It is a Sacramento County regulation that all dogs and cats over four months of age be vaccinated for rabies and licensed. View the Rabies Clinics page for more information.

    • Spay and NeuterFalse

      Also known as altering, sterilizing or fixing, spaying and neutering are terms for a minor procedure that makes animals unable to reproduce. Females are spayed - males are neutered. The surgeries are performed by veterinarians while the animals are under anesthesia. View the Spay/Neuter page for more information and ​find out about local low-cost and no-cost spay/neuter programs.

      If you find a stray animal, please try to find its owner through flyers in your neighborhood. Please view our Service Area information for which communities can bring strays to our shelter. Strays are held for 4​ days before being evaluated for adoptability. For more information, visit the Rescue Program page.
