The Special Olympics Northern California Fall Games are back, and three Sacramento County Chargers soccer teams will be represented at the tournament this Saturday, Nov. 19.
This past October, five Sacramento Chargers teams competed in the Special Olympics Northern California Regional Soccer Tournament. Of those five teams, two took home silver and one took home the gold medal, earning them all invitations to compete in the 2022 Fall Games Championship tournament in Davis, CA.
"We are so proud of all of our Chargers and can’t wait to cheer them on this weekend as they compete for gold in Davis," said Jenn Wilson Marchino, Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. "This is the first Fall Games in more than a decade, and our athletes are so excited and ready to compete and have fun!"
The Chargers are a sports training team based in Sacramento County that provides opportunities for training and competitions. Competitions are generally hosted by the Special Olympics or Very Inspirational People (V.I.P.).
The Chargers have been organized and coached by Therapeutic Recreation Services, a division of Sacramento County Regional Parks, and its volunteers since 1983. Joining a Chargers team can help participants reach their potential, make lifelong friendships, undergo new experiences, and learn new skills.
