Apply for a Community Planning and Advisory Council (CPAC) for the Vineyard, Cosumnes, South Sac, Rancho Cordova or Southeast areas.
Applications can be submitted online and if you should be selected, you would complete several training sessions and attend regular CPAC meetings. The primary purpose of the councils is to gather community response to proposed planning and development projects.
People serving on these valuable councils help shape projects that will be developed in their areas and decisions that affect their neighborhoods and communities for years to come.
The councils were created to facilitate citizen participation early in the planning process when it is easier for project proponents and decision-makers to respond to public concerns. The types of issues that may be reviewed range from broad policy questions that apply countywide, to small development projects of local interest. The types of entitlements that may be reviewed include: General Plan and Zoning Code amendments to plans, zoning matters and use permits.
During meetings, applicants that are proposing a project will be asked to give a presentation to the CPAC and audience. The council will ask questions and express any of their concerns. Later, the audience will be asked for input on the project. General public response/specific concerns will be recorded in the CPAC minutes and forwarded to Planning and Environmental Review for staff report inclusion to the hearing body(s) such as the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.
CPACs are advisory only and do not make final decisions. However, CPAC recommendations are carefully weighed by the final decision-making bodies.
