Sacramento County's Bradshaw Animal Shelter’s non-profit group, TEAM (Teaching Everyone Animals Matter), is participating in this Thursday’s Big Day of Giving, the online, one-day charity event for Sacramento non-profits. TEAM goes above and beyond to help animals like Zelda, who came to the Bradshaw Shelter as a stray. This lean, brown-eyed girl with a black silky coat appeared to be very adoptable, except for the noticeable cyst growing on her eye. Unfortunately, even minor medical issues can deter many potential adopters of a perfectly wonderful pet because of unknown veterinarian costs or the care that is needed.
When Bradshaw Animal Shelter Director Dave Dickinson noticed Zelda, he approached TEAM and asked them to consider providing their resources to remove the dermoid cyst from Zelda’s eye to improve her chances of adoption. TEAM provided the funds and the benign cyst was removed successfully.
After seeing Zelda online on the Shelter’s
list of adoptable animals, Kathy, who had lost her beloved pet canine around Christmas, decided to visit Zelda. Kathy immediately felt that they were a match and adopted Zelda in early April 2017 and renamed her Zoey.
Commenting about how well Zoey has fit into the family, Kathy, said, “There are so many sociable, well-behaved and all around great dogs at shelters who need homes. Even though I’ve only had her two-and-a-half weeks, Zoey is patient and watches out for my 14 year-old dog, loves to play fetch, hike, and is gentle with people and with kids. Zoey is the fifth dog I’ve adopted from a shelter. All five have been wonderful members of the family who lived long, happy lives and who provided us with love in return. The sad thing is that there are so many more like Zoey at shelters who need homes.”
TEAM accepts donations to provide equipment, medicine and specialty care for shelter animals, and organizes public awareness activities and service projects designed to generate support for shelter animals and related programs.
