It’s now easier than ever to get to the Hawaiian Islands from Sacramento. Southwest Airlines’ new nonstop flight from
Sacramento International Airport (SMF) to Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) officially began service Sunday, Nov. 10, following a week of celebrations at Fremont Park in Sacramento.
These new flights join Alaska Airlines’ and Hawaiian Airlines’ current nonstop service to Honolulu, Maui and Kona International Airport (KOA). Southwest’s nonstop service to Kahului Airport (OGG) in Maui will begin in March.
“Southwest Airlines provides our customers with another opportunity to find competitively priced nonstops to Hawaii, a destination in high demand from Sacramento,” said Director Cindy Nichol, Sacramento County Department of Airports. “This new service, coupled with the success of flights to Hawaii on Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, demonstrates this region’s demand for easy access to the islands.”
The daily Southwest flight to Honolulu will leave Sacramento at 10:50 a.m. and return at 2:10 p.m. Whether travelers are looking to relax on the beach, get active outdoors or experience the state’s diverse culture, the Hawaiian Islands are a popular year-round destination. This new route is the fifth nonstop flight to Hawaii from SMF.
The inaugural flight left SMF with a true island send-off, including traditional Hawaiian dancers, cookies from Hawaii based Diamond Cookie Company and goodies from the Southwest Heart Cart.
“We’ve now added Honolulu as a Southwest heading on our full compass of destinations for Sacramento Customers,” Andrew Watterson, Southwest Airlines Chief Revenue Officer & Executive Vice President said before the inaugural departure boarded. “We’re so pleased Hawaii journeys are now possible nonstop from Sacramento with our world-famous Hospitality where Bags Fly Free and change fees never fly.”
