According to the U.S. Small Business Association, more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. To recognize the entrepreneurs and small businesses in the region, Sacramento County is celebrating
Capital Region Small Business Week from April 30 through May 4, 2018.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Board of Supervisors recognized Capital Region Small Business Week, highlighting
BizX 2018: Marketing Like a Boss, the joint Sacramento County, City of Sacramento and California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) College of Business Administration event on May 1. Developed to provide attendees with an opportunity to discover new ways to take their marketing strategy to the next level, the event will feature a hands-on environment, training and tactics to stay relevant in today’s market. This year, John Davidson, Head of Partnerships for GameStop and CSUS alum along with other speakers, will share advice for those aspiring to become a strategic marketing professional. “From the storefront shops that anchor Main Street to the high-tech startups that keep America on the cutting edge, small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Troy Givans, Sacramento County Director of Economic Development and Marketing. “This is the second year that Sacramento County has participated in the Capitol Region Small Business Week and the third year the Business Environmental Resource Center has been involved. We look forward to working with our partners to make this year’s event a huge success.”

Monday, April 30, 2018:
Event Details: 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dante Club. $20 registration fee.
Tuesday, May 1, 2018:
BizX: “Marketing Like a Boss” – Hosted by Sacramento County, BERC, the City of Sacramento, CSUS and Uptown Studios, this year’s event will gather more than 150 entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners for an afternoon focused on inspirational storytelling designed to energize, motivate, and give you the tips you need to market like a boss.
Event Details: The program will go from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m., followed by an after party from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Crocker Art Museum. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for general admission.

Wednesday, May 2, 2018:
Capital Connection - Accessing Capital can be a challenge for the Small Business Owner. Hosted by the Capital Region SBDC, learn how to bridge that gap, and get your small business the capital you need. Come hear from and meet with banks, credit unions and other lending institutions that can help you achieve your goals.

Thursday, May 3, 2018:
Small Business Start- Up Forum: Things to Consider When Starting Your New Business - If you’re thinking about starting a new business or already in process of launching your new venture, come learn about the business fundamentals from a panel of experts, hosted by the City of Elk Grove. Topics that will be addressed by the panel include: creating a business plan, business organization structure, taxes, permits and business licensing and hiring employees.
Event Details: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the California Northstate University.
May Marketplace – Hosted by the California Capital FDC, this free annual event focuses on supporting small businesses within the Capitol Region! Shop with 70 small businesses and learn about the latest products and services local vendors have to offer.

Friday, May 4, 2018:
Small Business Awards Breakfast - The Sacramento Business Journal and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are proud to partner and hold the annual Small Business Awards, an event to celebrate the small businesses that drive our economy. Nominations for the Small Business Awards are accepted in a number of categories in January and February and the Sacramento District Office of the SBA and their counterparts in Washington, D.C. do a thorough review of the candidates before selecting the winners each year.
Event Details: 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Citrus Heights Community Center. $35 individual registration fee
