Status update about BIG DAY of GIVING 5/3/16
Due to technical difficulties on the national level, the BIG DAY of GIVING donation site did not work properly on May 3. The Sacramento region has decided to keep going – in fact to extend the deadline - until 3pm tomorrow, Wednesday May 4.
Rather than donating via the bigdayofgiving.org site, donors should go directly to their nonprofit’s web site to make a credit card donation or drop off checks in person. If there is no giving capability on the nonprofit’s site, call them directly or call the Sacramento Region Community Foundation at 916-921-7723.
Let’s come together and show just how resilient we are and make this work!
BIG DAY of GIVING
Sacramento area residents will come together beginning at midnight on May 3 for the third annual Big Day of Giving, a 24-hour online event encouraging philanthropy for local charities and nonprofits that serve the region.
The event is open to the public, and anyone who wishes to participate can make a secure donation by debit or credit card on www.bigdayofgiving.org.
The Big Day of Giving raised $3 million in 2014 and $5.6 million in 2015 from 36,000 donors from the region, the state, the country and even other parts of the world for Sacramento nonprofits. The collective goal for this year’s event is $6 million and 30,000 donors.
"The Big Day of Giving has been a unifying event for our community to generously support local nonprofits and charitable organizations," said Roberta MacGlashan, Chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. "Donors can support the causes that strengthen our region and take pride in the philanthropic spirit of residents the Sacramento area."
Donation activity for the Big Day of Giving, including a leaderboard showcasing real-time donations, will be displayed on the Big Day of Giving website. Individuals and businesses can donate throughout the day to multiple charitable organizations of their choice. The minimum donation is $25, while the maximum is $10,000.
