For National Food Safety Month, 598 local food establishments in Sacramento County have earned the Sacramento County Environmental Management 2018/19 Food Safety Award of Excellence.

To honor the remarkable food safety efforts of local restaurants and food facilities that protect the public from foodborne illnesses, the Sacramento County Environmental Management Department recognized Sacramento County operators during the Board of Supervisors meeting on Sep. 10. The recipients of the Environmental Management 2018/19 Food Safety Award of Excellence all achieved three consecutive health inspections without major violations.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimate that 48 million people get sick and 3,000 die from foodborne diseases in the U.S. each year. With help from EMD’s food protection program and free food safety classes, Sacramento County food facility operators are trained that most foodborne illnesses are preventable, by teaching the principles of food safety and focusing on preventing food contamination and learning facility sanitation, time/temperature control, and personal hygiene.

Of those 598 recognized, one establishment from each of the five Sacramento County supervisorial districts was chosen to receive their award at the Board of Supervisors meeting.

AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE HONOREES:

District 1 – Supervisor Phil Serna

District 2 – Supervisor Patrick Kennedy

HengFat Restaurant is located at 7802 Gerber Road in Sacramento. This Chinese restaurant is known for its delicious and affordable noodle and rice dishes

District 3 – Supervisor Susan Peters

19 Handles is located at 4235 Arden Way in Sacramento. 19 Handles is a fun, family friendly pub with a very large one of a kind beer selection and creative American/Czech/German & Scottish menu serving lunch and dinner.

District 4 – Supervisor Sue Frost

Visconti’s Ristorante is located at 2700 E Bidwell #700 in Folsom. Classic Italian music plays as Visconti’s Ristorante serves famous Italian cuisine dishes, like Mama’s famous cannolis. You cannot leave without indulging in most popular Italian dishes: Linguini con Gambere and Asparagus, Linguini alla Italiana, Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka, and anything parmigiana.

District 5 – Supervisor Don Nottoli
