Can a person have too many shoes? If you find yourself in this situation, here is a solution to get rid of your gently worn, or well-worn, or even single shoes if they have lost their mates. Waste Management and Recycling has teamed up with Soles4Souls, “Keep California Beautiful,” and STORAGEPRO to recycle 25,000 pairs of shoes by September 30.
“Turn Up the Sole” is the 2013 theme of the California campaign. Here in Sacramento County, collection boxes will be placed at public areas where County facilities are located. Soles4Souls accepts all types of shoes: athletic, running, dress, sandals, pumps, heels, work boots, cleats, dance, and flip flops.
The donated shoes will be used to help individuals in need. Soles4Souls distributes the reusable shoes worldwide. The unusable footwear is recycled which keeps them out of the landfill reducing the strain on the environment. A shoe can take 30 to 40 years to decompose. None of the shoes received by Soles4Souls are thrown away.
