While Carol Tucker, a Sacramento County public health nurse, was visiting a client-family who participates in the Nurse Family Partnership, Carol and the mother saw that her napping son was pale and not breathing. Without hesitation, Carol performed CPR on the child while his mother dialed 9-1-1. Thankfully due to Carol’s knowledge of nursing, CPR training, and ability to stay calm in emergency situations the child was revived.
This family still participates in the Nurse Family Partnership program because of the immense impact Carol and the program has made on their lives. The story above is just one example of how Public Health touches the lives of clients and leaves a positive mark on the community.
In honor of the many ways Public Health touches our lives, including disease surveillance and investigations, health education, and emergency preparedness, Sacramento County’s Division of Public Health will join together with the Public Health community across the nation to celebrate National Public Health Week. The first week in April has brought communities together around the nation for over 20 years as an opportunity to recognize public health’s contributions and raise awareness of critical health topics.
