Drum roll, please… and, the 8th annual Kitty Palooza Feline Adoption Event grand total is… 147 cats and kittens adopted – in just eight hours!
The epic August 2-3 weekend event was held at the County’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter for four hours each day. On the first day, 82 felines were adopted, and the trend continued as another 65 went to loving homes the next day. But that’s not all - 16 dogs and puppies, one baby pig and even a tiny mouse also found new homes!
“The Shelter is so grateful to the many individuals and families who opened their hearts and homes to shelter animals,” said Dave Dickinson, Shelter Director. “And, our thanks go out to those who contributed donations and those who spread the word by sharing the event on the Sacramento County Animal Care Facebook page.”
For the event, the Animal Shelter had more than 200 cats and kittens available, many of them were cared for by foster parents so they were fully socialized and ready to go. But, there are still more than 400 animals at the Shelter that are looking for a place to call home.
If you missed the last event, don’t worry, this weekend is a perfect time to adopt as we have a ‘Hot August Days!’ – a 50 percent off adoption event – August 8, 9 and 10. See all the wonderful animals available for adoption online.
Volunteering at the Shelter is very gratifying. If you are looking to volunteer, there are many different opportunities at the Shelter, as well as learning to provide foster care to shelter animals. Often animals require temporary foster care outside of the shelter for as short as a few days or longer depending on their circumstances. The needs of the animal are matched to the Foster Provider’s needs. Check the Animal Care website for upcoming volunteer/foster orientation dates.
