Local officials gathered at Discovery Park to promote Sacramento County Regional Parks’
Life Looks Good on You and
Kids Don’t Float public awareness campaigns on Friday, May 20. The Parks Department launched the campaigns to encourage people of all ages to wear a life jacket when they wade, swim or boat in the American and Sacramento Rivers.
“We are having fun with this campaign to grow awareness,” said Phil Serna, Sacramento County Supervisor for District 1, “but drowning is a serious issue. Wear a life jacket, and you could save your own life.”
Cold water, swift currents and under water hazards make the river dangerous, even for strong swimmers. Before you dive in, put on a life vest. If you don't have one, there are borrowing stations along Sacramento’s waterways and at local fire stations. Snap a quick pic or selfie with #SacRivers and post it on Twitter or Instagram. You could win BIG PRIZES and look good doing it!
You can borrow a life vest at any of the many borrowing stations along Sacramento’s public waterways. It’s also the law for kids under 13. The California Division of Boating and Waterways statewide life vest loaner program provides more than 2,000 new life vests a year, easily accessible children, for free.
