Recognizing a need in Sacramento County, Heroes of Human Services 2017 Award recipient, pediatrician Dr. Goore stepped up and implemented an innovative solution to provide relief from food insecurity in the community.
In 2014, Dr. Goore and her husband purchased a food truck to collect nutritious food to donate to local food banks, pantries and underserved schools. Since the fall of 2014, Reverse Food Truck has collected over 10,000 pounds of produce to provide to organizations such as the River City Food Bank and John Still Elementary School.
By parking the Reverse Food Truck at farmers markets and asking customers to buy produce to donate instead of asking for donations directly from farmers, it helps the farmers, fulfills a need in the community and supports Sacramento’s farm-to-fork movement.
“Dr. Goore's passion for helping our community reflects our community values,” said Sacramento County District 3 Supervisor Susan Peters, “Goore demonstrates how medical providers can help address health needs outside of the doctor's office.”
