The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors promised up to $100,000 dollars to the Rebuilding Together Sacramento organization to supplement fundraising efforts for the “Rebuild Day event.” The event is held twice a year to repair substandard homes in a designated community. This year, on April 25, the group will help rebuild SEVEN homes and refresh TWO parks in the Fruitridge Pocket neighborhood.
“With the help of community partners and hundreds of volunteers, we’re coming together to help deserving residents,” said Phil Serna, Chairman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. “The character of great neighborhoods, like South Oak Park/Fruitridge Pocket and The Avenues is reflective of the people who make it that way. We have an obligation to do everything we can to help those in need within these communities, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. I invite everyone who can, to get involved and make a difference.”
This event combines sponsorship dollars and volunteer hours to revitalize a neighborhood. Approximately 500 volunteers, many of whom participate year after year, will help make repairs including minor plumbing and electrical issues, flooring, fencing, landscaping, installation of safety items, weatherization, exterior painting and debris clean up. Donated funds are used to provide dumpsters, port-a-potties, building materials, meals, beverages and t-shirts for the volunteers – as well as purchase building materials and at times, hire skilled labor to assist with the repairs.
“We encourage everyone to get involved to improve the homes and lives of people in this Sacramento County neighborhood,” said Patrick Kennedy, Supervisor of the adjacent district, District 2. “In doing so, you’ll help improve the lives of the residents, have fun, and gain a tremendous sense of pride and satisfaction spending the day helping others.”
Can you help? The organization is looking for volunteers of all skill levels including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers as well as general repair, painting, yard clean up or registering volunteers.
