Warming Centers for County/City, Elk Grove and Galt are Closed
Based on the weather forecast, the County/City, Elk Grove and Galt Warming Centers are closed, with no plans to open in the near future, unless weather conditions change. For information on available social services in the Sacramento area, call 2-1-1.

County/City Warming Center Open to Wednesday AM
With continued low temperatures predicted into Wednesday morning, the Warming Center at the Southside Park Pool Building will be open tonight from 8pm until 6am on Wednesday. As forecasted, the weather should be warming up beginning Wednesday so it is not anticipated the warming center will need to open Wednesday night.
The County and City joint warming center was used by 24 people last night. Three used the Elk Grove Center and one person was at the Galt center. They also do not plan to open Wednesday night.

County/City Joint Warming Center Open Extra Night
In response to continued nighttime temperatures in the upper 20s, the City and County of Sacramento, coordinated by the County Office of Emergency Services, have decided to keep the nighttime warming center at the Southside Park Pool Building at 2115 6th Street open through Tuesday morning. Social Workers with County Senior and Adult Services are checking clients for any cold-related issues during their regularly scheduled welfare checks. The situation will be monitored and updates given daily.

County/City Joint Warming Center to Remain Open
In response to expected night temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s over the next four evenings, the City and County of Sacramento, coordinated by the County Office of Emergency Services, opened a nighttime warming center for residents to get out of the cold.
The Center opened December 4, and is expected to stay open through Monday, December 9, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning. If temperatures begin to rise, the centers will close. The situation will be monitored and updates given daily.
The criteria for this response, according to the County/City Severe Weather Guide, are extreme cold/freeze warnings for three days accompanied by night temperatures of 32 degrees or less.
On December 4, the City of Sacramento sent out 48,294 phone alerts via their Everbridge system and the City of Galt sent out 14,000 reverse 911 messages.
Warming Center Locations
The location of the Sacramento warming center is the Southside Park Pool Building – 2115 6th Street (at U Street), Sacramento. The capacity is approximately 60-75 people. Snacks and chairs will be provided; however, no beds will be provided. A van is available to transport people to Loaves and Fishes for a hot breakfast.
Staffing is provided by the Office of Emergency Services, the Department of Human Assistance, City Parks & Recreation and Medical Reserve Corp and Hands On Sacramento volunteers. Security is provided by Sacramento City Police Department. City Animal Services will has supplied ten kennels and carriers for animals. The animals of the people using the warming center will not be transferred to City Animal Services. If the center reaches capacity, backup facilities are being arranged.

Sacramento Steps Forward in partnership with the Capital Christian Center opened the Winter Sanctuary, which is a program that rotates locations amongst local churches.
