The Department of Child Support Services donated more than 400 items to the Sacramento Children’s Home as part of their annual Back-to-School drive. In just 30 days, they collected notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, and backpacks and delivered them in time for the students to use for the first week of school.
“We have been doing this drive for four years in honor of Child Awareness Month,” said Child Support Services Director Terrie Porter. “Our staff is honored to contribute in this ‘hands on’ manner and knowing that we can make children’s school experience more fun is extremely rewarding.”
Child Support Officers Tammy Lo, Holly Muraki, and Jill Lucena along with Director Terrie Porter, loaded eight, full boxes into a van and dropped them off to the Home. They were greeted by the Sacramento Children’s Home Philanthropy Director, Todd Koolakian, the Marketing and Communications Manager, Laurel Sunderman, and the Philanthropy Associate, Ann Checkley, who expressed gratitude for the staff’s kindness and said so publicly on their Facebook page.
Sacramento Children’s Home is a non-profit organization that has been servicing families in the area for 150 years. It provides an array of programs and services related to housing, education, child care, and counseling geared towards the success of members of the community and their children. The Home relies on the generosity of volunteers, donors, and community leaders to sustain the important work it does for the public.
