Sacramento County’s
Bradshaw Animal Shelter is hosting its second Annual Howliday Stocking Toy & Treat Drive. Bradshaw’s volunteers have partnered with the shelter's non-profit,
Teaching Everyone Animals Matter (T.E.A.M.), to collect quality toys and treats for shelter animals in need during the holiday season. Volunteers and high school students are already busy hand sewing and stuffing more than 700 holiday stockings. Stockings will be hung on each and every shelter kennel during the month of December so that every adopted shelter pet will be sent “Home for the Holidays” with added holiday cheer.
“As this project has evolved, the community has really rallied around it, which is bringing awareness to the shelter,” says Colleen Auernig, Bradshaw Animal Shelter volunteer. “People of all ages are eagerly getting involved by sewing and decorating stockings, collecting items, wrapping treats and participating in stocking stuffing day. The stockings have now become symbols of the love and kindness of many. That symbol is then given to the new adoptive family to show our gratitude and appreciation for adopting a shelter pet.”
Donations will be accepted through the month of November and there are three ways to participate:
- Donate toys or treats (bully sticks, KONG Dog toys, dental chews, cat toys, rabbit treats)
- Make a monetary donation online through the T.E.A.M. website. Please make a note that the donation is for the “stocking drive.”
- Sponsor adoption fees for a homeless pet
Donations can be sent to or dropped off at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento, CA 95827 during open hours.
