Because of the public health crisis, the U.S. Census Bureau has extended the deadline for completing the census until Oct. 31, and the census has never been easier (or more important) to complete. You can respond online, by phone or by mail. It only takes a few minutes, so it’s best to do so as soon as possible.
Census websites are now available in English and 12 other languages. Online surveys may be completed on a computer, smartphone, laptop or tablet.
To complete the census by phone, call 1 (844) 330-2020. Telephone assistance is available from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. If there’s a wait time, you can ask the Census Bureau to call you back.
For those who prefer a paper questionnaire, surveys have been mailed to households who have not previously responded. “U.S. Census Bureau” or “U.S. Department of Commerce” is printed in the return address. Simply complete the census and mail it back in the return envelope provided.
It has never been more important for households to complete the 2020 Census. Many emergency preparedness and public health programs rely heavily on census data for federal funding. Sacramento County is eligible for hundreds of millions of dollars in federal stimulus from the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) based on population figures provided by the Census Bureau.
