The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors has formally approved a generous $359,823.44 donation to Sacramento County Bradshaw Animal Shelter from the Estate of Robert W. Steger. This transformative gift will directly support lifesaving care for animals in our community.

With the Board’s approval, Animal Care Services is authorized to accept and utilize the full $359,823.44.

Robert W. Steger was a devoted cat and dog lover whose generosity reflected his deep compassion for animals. Through this extraordinary bequest, his legacy will continue to make a lasting difference for thousands of pets and the families who love them.

“This gift is more than a donation, it is a legacy of compassion,” said Annette Bedsworth, Director of Animal Care Services. “His contribution is truly a testament to his kindness and unwavering support for our mission. Because of Mr. Steger’s belief in giving animals a second chance, we will be able to expand programs like our MASH clinics and provide more spay and neuter services to Sacramento County residents. That investment in prevention saves lives and strengthens our community.”

Animal Care Services will use these funds to expand critical programs like MASH, increasing access to spay and neuter services across Sacramento County. By investing directly in prevention, this gift will help reduce unwanted litters, ease shelter overcrowding, and keep more pets healthy and at home.

In accepting this donation, Sacramento County honors Robert W. Steger’s commitment to animal welfare and ensures his kindness will continue saving lives for years to come.
