For many pet owners, a trip to the veterinarian is a routine part of keeping their beloved companions healthy. But for unhoused individuals in Sacramento County, accessing veterinary care can be a significant challenge. That’s where the PAWS (Pet Aid and Wellness Services) Mobile Clinic comes in—a full-service veterinary outreach clinic on wheels, dedicated solely to the pets of unhoused Sacramento County residents.

What is PAWS?

PAWS Mobile Clinic was created to bridge the gap between pet care and accessibility, ensuring that every pet—regardless of their owner’s housing status—receives the essential medical care they deserve. Since its launch, PAWS has provided compassionate and comprehensive veterinary services to Sacramento’s most vulnerable pets.

Services Provided by PAWS Mobile Clinic

PAWS offers a wide range of veterinary services, including:

  • Spay and neuter surgeries to help reduce pet overpopulation.
  • Medical treatment and testing for common illnesses and chronic conditions.
  • Vaccines and preventative care to keep pets healthy and safe.
  • Microchipping to ensure lost pets can be reunited with their owners.
  • Pet pantry and supplies, including food, leashes and other essentials.

By bringing these vital services directly to the community, PAWS eliminates barriers to care, helping both pets and their owners live healthier, happier lives.

A Year of Impact

In its first year, PAWS provided over 1,500 exams and 479 spay/neuter surgeries. The clinic also delivered over 1,000 wellness services, including vaccinations, medical treatments and urgent care. Additionally, PAWS offered dental services for a few pets and performed special procedures when necessary. These services were provided at no cost to pet owners, ensuring that unhoused pets received the essential care they needed to live healthier lives.
