Sacramento County’s Resource Families (formerly known as foster parents) play a major role in ensuring foster youth have safe, stable environments to stay in while they await permanent placement. Sacramento County’s Child Protective Services (CPS) celebrated resource families this month by holding an appreciation event at Leatherby’s in Arden-Arcade.
Fifty-eight families showed up to the event on Aug 3. Families were able to bring their entire household, which meant more than 200 people came by to enjoy ice cream and socialize. While the kids enjoyed digging into giant ice cream treats, resource parents were able to connect with each other and CPS staff at the event. A professional photographer also took photos for families to take home. CPS also provided backpacks for back-to-school.
While CPS is grateful for all the resource families in Sacramento County, there is always a need for more families who can foster kids and teens. On average, 10 – 20 children at a time are in need of a foster home. There is a particular need for families who can take care of teens and siblings.
