UPDATE: The application deadline has been extended to Friday, Aug. 19.
The Committee will directly advise the County’s newly formed
Public Safety and Justice Agency, which oversees the County’s Probation department and the offices of the Public Defender, the Coroner and the Conflict Criminal Defender, on critical justice matters.
“The Public Safety and Justice Agency was created to ensure changes are collaboratively established through coordination with social service and health agencies and community stakeholders, particularly those most impacted by the justice system,” said Eric Jones, Deputy County Executive for the Public Safety and Justice Agency. “We are forming this advisory committee to provide an opportunity for community members and the County to co-create solutions for justice issues, including safe and effective jail population and recidivism reduction efforts.”
Ideal PSJAAC members are those who can share their unique experience and/or expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Behavioral Health Services
- Medical and Public Health Providers
- Civil Rights Organizations
- Public/Private Education
- Youth Mentors
- Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
- Crime Survivors
- Recidivism Reduction Organizations
- Clergy
- Business Owners
- Neighborhood Associations
- Philanthropic Organizations
The PSJAAC will meet at least quarterly. Because the committee is advisory and not an oversight body, standing meetings will be open to committee members and County staff only to facilitate open and honest dialogue and hear personal stories.
