Hearings for the Fiscal Year 2016-17 Budget concluded today with the Board of Supervisors approving the Adopted Budget document outlining the nearly $4B budget, including $2.4B in General Fund, to fund County operations.

“We have approved the final budget for next year, one that balances the many needs across our county including social services, law enforcement and road maintenance,” said Roberta MacGlashan, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “Though the economy has rebounded a bit, we must remain mindful about spending cautiously and putting funds away for future needs. We’re planning for the future while investing in critical areas such as Child Protective Services, Public Health, mental health services and homeless services.”

In addition to Child Protective Services, Public Health and mental health services, additional funding has been applied to:

  • Building general reserves
  • Clerical support in Regional Parks to free up Ranger time to work in the parks
  • Road Maintenance
  • Cyber Crime investigation
  • Paying back fund transfers made during the height of the recession
  • Setting aside funds for coming construction and technology projects
  • Building Inspection staff for increased permit activity

The Board made miscellaneous adjustments during deliberations totaling $215,000 for a variety of requests including:

  • $100K in additional funding for Winter Sanctuary for a total County contribution of $360K.
  • $100K to Roberts Family Development Center who provide educational and recreational services to elementary and junior high school aged youth.
