Just like counties around the nation, Sacramento County’s infrastructure is key to our quality of life. National County Government Month provides an opportunity every April to celebrate our achievements and sets the stage for our future accomplishments.
Serving 1.4M people in an area of 994 square miles, it is the investment in infrastructure that moves Sacramento County forward. More than 2,200 miles of roadways and 350 miles of bikeways are maintained by Sacramento County. It is upon this infrastructure that $455M in agricultural products were transported, which has contributed greatly to our economy.
County government infrastructure plays a central role in services, which increases the quality of life for all Sacramento County residents. Below are a few other services that contribute to our infrastructure this past year:
311 call center handled 100,000 customer calls;
41,000 potholes were fixed;
203,580 votes were counted;
7,745 building permits and 3,752 business licenses were issued;
Marriage licenses were supplied to 9,933 couples;
The American River Parkway had 8M visitor and 164,579 played County golf courses;
County inspectors scrutinized 6,053 gas pumps and 5,412 restaurants/food facilities;
320 miles of creeks and channels were cleaned and removed 2750 tons of sediment, trash and excess vegetation;
Waste trucks picked up 127,735 tons of trash, 69,615 tons of green waste, 36,430 tons recyclables;
The District Attorney’s Office assisted 4,531 victims/witnesses;
6,446 veterans received services;
10,500 vaccinations were administered;
422 children were adopted into loving homes;
3,668 animals were adopted; and
Spay/neuter surgery was performed on 2,629 animals
