The Board of Supervisors, at its July 17 meeting, concurred with the County Executive’s appointment of Michelle Callejas as the Director of Child, Family, and Adult Services Department, effective July 22, 2018. After a national recruitment search and comprehensive interview process, Callejas was identified as the top candidate based on experience, education and continued commitment to the community.
“The County of Sacramento is fortunate to be able to promote such a highly qualified candidate to serve as the Director of the Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services,” said Bruce Wagstaff, Deputy County Executive, Social Services.
Ms. Callejas has worked for Sacramento County for almost 22 years, primarily in child welfare and mental health. During this time, Ms. Callejas has promoted to positions that involve greater responsibility and more complex challenges.
Ms. Callejas has been the Acting Director of the Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services since March 2018, where her primary focus has been on ensuring that there is no disruption to services during the transition to the new department, while also facilitating the move to a new location and supporting staff through the recent organizational change.
Prior to that, Callejas served as the Deputy Director of Child Protective Services (CPS). During this time, she has promoted more transparency to help the community, system partners, and media to better understand the complexities of the work performed by CPS, as well as the wide array of services provided by the program.
Ms. Callejas has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Counseling, Emphasis in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling and School Counseling. Ms. Callejas earned both degrees at the California State University, Sacramento.
