The Farm-to-Fork festival is celebrating its third year and 2015’s event is expected to be the best yet. Sacramento holds the title of
Farm-To-Fork Capital of America for incorporating local agriculture and farm products into its local cuisine and culture. The free festival will take place at Downtown Sacramento’s Capitol Mall from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26.
The Sacramento County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office will be at the festival this year with Dozer, the pest-detecting dog. He will be available to meet fans and sign autographs at various times during the day. Dozer will show off his talents on the main stage at 11:30am and 1:15pm. Dozer will search through a small group of unmarked packages using his sensitive and highly trained nose to locate fruits or plant materials that could be carrying pests or diseases that could be a danger to California agriculture.
This festival aims to highlight and increase awareness of the region’s farms, restaurants and organizations that serve the best of the best in Farm-to-Fork related eating. Each vendor participating in the festival will focus on the farm-to-fork philosophy by promoting locally grown products.
Attractions at the festival include produce, meat, fish, wine, craft beer, cheese and olive oil. The vibrant mixture of culinary options the region has to offer will all be featured at the festival with 120-plus vendors planning to attend.
