During the summer months, many shelters across the nation are jam-packed with kittens due to spring litters from unaltered cats in the community. Sacramento County’s
Bradshaw Animal Shelter is no exception. With an overwhelming influx of kittens this year, the shelter was forced to stop all intake of cats and kittens from the public with the exception of sick, injured and pregnant cats, as well as motherless neonate kittens.
With so many available kittens waiting for forever homes, the shelter reached out to a local Petco in Fair Oaks in hopes of alleviating the impact. The local pet store will partner with the shelter to host a kitten adoption event in their adoption center. The event will happen on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Adoption counseling will take place during the event so that each kitten can find the perfect home.
During the adoption event, adopters will have the option to adopt two kittens, as kittens do best in pairs. The 2-for-1 ($50 total) adoption special is available for all kittens, and the pet store is offering a discount to all adopters so they can shop for their new kittens’ basic needs and pet supplies in-store. Adoption fees are cash only with exact change, and include spay or neuter surgery, vaccines, a lifetime microchip registration and one year licensing (for county residents). Masks are required.
In addition to the adoption event, the shelter is currently offering adoptions by appointment. Potential adopters can view available shelter pets online by
visiting the shelter’s website then call the adoption appointment line at (916) 875-2287. The adoption line is open Tuesday through Sunday between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
