On Jan. 28, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted to approve updates to the General Assistance (GA) policy, enhancing support for indigent residents. The changes focus on alleviating the burden of supplying additional verifications, reducing reporting requirements and removing barriers to accessing aid, mirroring more closely those in other safety net programs such as Medi-Cal and CalFresh.
“By simplifying the policies outlined in the Board approved recommendation, we’re breaking down barriers that have historically made it difficult for indigent residents to access critical assistance,” said Ethan Dye, Director of the Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance.
The policy update reflects the County’s commitment to addressing the needs of its most vulnerable populations. Sacramento County aims to ensure timely and efficient assistance for residents facing financial hardship by improving transparency and refining eligibility requirements.
