Beginning Saturday, May 24, the Soil Born Farms American River Ranch organic fruit and vegetable stand will reopen after closing for the winter season, resuming its regular Saturday hours, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
“We encourage anyone to stop by while enjoying the American River Parkway,” said Jeff Leatherman, Director of Regional Parks. “Grab a healthy lunch or some tasty fruits and veggies.”
The stand sells fresh organic fruit and vegetables from its local farms. Some of the produce includes:
The stand at 2140 Chase Drive features farm products from local growers, fair-trade equal exchange coffee, and pastries from Magpie Café. The goal is to give customers an authentic country experience from inside an urban area. The stand accepts payment by cash, check or EBT food stamps. Each week, an updated list of available items is posted, as well as recipes for using fruits and vegetables that are in season.
Soil Born Farms is a non-profit farm, aimed at promoting health and hands-on experience to learn about gardening and environmental stewardship. Local schools are often invited to the farm to learn about healthy food and agriculture. Soil Born Farms wants everyone to have access to healthy options, whether that is from their weekly farm stand or a personal backyard garden. Soil Born Farm’s 55 acre farm on the American River Parkway is leased from Sacramento County and proves to be a gem all its own.
