Does your organization or school have a project you feel could improve our waterways and keep them clean? The Sacramento County Department of Water Resources (DWR) could help you make that project come to life. The Stormwater Quality Program is offering grants to community groups and schools for projects that protect, restore or enhance our creeks and rivers.

The window has opened for submission to the 2019-2020 Watershed Stewardship and Education Grant program.

This is the 15th year the Stormwater Quality Program will partner with the community to protect and improve our waterways. Schools and community groups are encouraged to review program requirements and submit applications to the Stormwater Quality Program for review.

Who can apply?
  •  Schools and student groups
  •  Service clubs
  •  Youth organizations
  •  Homeowner’s associations
  •  Community and neighborhood groups
  •  Not-for-profit groups
  •  Informal groups with innovative ideas
(Individuals and for-profit groups are not eligible)

Eligible projects must be implemented within the Storm Water Utility boundary of Sacramento County and/or directly affect the residents of these areas. A map showing eligible areas can be found on the Department of Water Resources website.

Applicants are encouraged to submit ideas for protecting, restoring or enhancing creeks, riparian corridors, watersheds, and rivers within the unincorporated urban areas of Sacramento County. Previous awards include the Hands in the River Program from the Sierra Nevada Journey program, pictured here. Students learned how to assess water quality and the importance of keeping our local waterways clean.

DWR will offer up to $2,500 for each project chosen for the grant. The amount will depend on the needs of the organization. Projects like these are not only a great educational tool, but can also be a wonderful team-building opportunity.

The final date to apply is July 1, 2019. For more information, applicants can review the application to determine if projects are eligible on the Stormwater Quality Program page.
