Sacramento County’s Office of Emergency Services will conduct a test of the County’s emergency alert system on Thursday, Oct. 15. The test will help ensure the system is working properly and that residents can receive important emergency information when they need it.
The test will take place on the same day as the Great California ShakeOut, an annual earthquake preparedness event that encourages people to practice how to stay safe during an earthquake.
Residents who are signed up for Sacramento Alert should expect to receive a test notification. If you are not enrolled yet, you can still sign up in time for the test. Those who are already signed up should take a moment to review and update their contact information to make sure they can receive alerts.
Sacramento Alert can provide critical, time-sensitive information during emergencies, including natural disasters, severe weather, fires, flooding, road closures, missing persons and evacuations. You can customize your alert preferences based on locations within Sacramento County where they live or work.
After receiving the test alert, residents will have an opportunity to complete a short survey and provide feedback about the message. Feedback can help the County improve its emergency communications, including the clarity of messages and language translations.
The upcoming test is a good reminder to make sure you are prepared to receive emergency information before an actual emergency happens.
