Sacramento County, local cities and special districts are updating the 2021 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) to reduce disaster risks from floods, droughts, wildfires, severe weather and other natural hazards. A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved LHMP helps agencies qualify for disaster mitigation grants and can lower flood insurance costs for residents in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County and the cities of Sacramento and Citrus Heights.
The LHMP update process began in November 2025 and the plan is scheduled to be finalized and submitted to the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and FEMA in December 2026.
Final public and Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (HMPC) meetings are being held to discuss and collect comments on the LHMP Public Review Draft. The draft plan and a survey for public input is available at www.stormready.org. A printed copy is available at select Sacramento County public libraries. All jurisdictional, public and stakeholder comments are due by Friday, Nov. 20, 2026. Please feel free to attend either meeting below or visit stormready.org for other options to submit comments.
